In the lead-up to the World Weightlifting Championships in Ashgabat was held a meeting of the Executive Committee and the Congress of the International Weightlifting Federation (hereinafter – IWF).

The agenda of the meeting included topical issues of the weightlifting development in the world, changes in anti-doping policy, improvement of corporate governance within the IWF, and so on. In particular, in order to strengthen the anti-doping system and protect “clean” athletes, it was decided to start cooperation of the IWF with the independent doping testing organization – ITA.

During the meeting, the members of the Executive Committee were presented the recently created anti-doping platform “iLiftCLEAN”, which is designed to supplement the knowledge of the athletes in the anti-doping rules field. Noteworthy is that the             indispensable condition for the participation in the Championship was the passage of this educational course by athletes .

Also at the end of the meeting was announced the venue for the World Championship 2021 . The World Championships are due to be held in Lima (Peru).

General Secretary of WFRK Alexey Golovin:

— The Congress is a traditional event of the IWF, which gives the opportunity to the all 192 member federations of a large weightlifting family to get together, discuss pressing issues, and, not least, share their own vision of the development of our sport.

For Kazakhstan, the significance of these events was also marked by the fact that this World Championship became the first international start for our Federation after a disqualification for a year. We made the conclusions and, as you probably know, fully met all the requirements put forward by the IWF as part of the disqualification. A great work has been done over the past year. Our Federation has developed and implemented the Anti-Doping Policy, created the Disciplinary Commission, designed to consider all the facts of anti-doping rule violation, and regular educational and enlightenment work is being carried out, including seminars in cooperation with the Kazakhstan Anti-Doping Center. Hereafter will be the new Olympic cycle, and we set the new goals and objectives for promoting clean sport in our Republic and the world as a whole.
